Sensitech, Qualcomm Form Cold Chain-Powered Collaboration

The partnership focuses on the expansion of real-time monitoring and other intelligence services.

Sensitech, a supply chain visibility company and part of Carrier Global Corporation, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a telecommunications company, will be partnering up in an effort to design technology that will help grow real-time monitoring services for the cold chain sector specifically with help of analytics and real-time visibility.1

“Groundbreaking innovation in digitizing and connecting supply chains requires collaboration across an ecosystem of key players, and we are excited to announce this agreement with Qualcomm Technologies,” said Bhasker Kaushal, VP & general manager, Sensitech and refrigeration aftermarket, Carrier. “We will collaborate to improve real-time monitoring, intelligence, and response in the supply chain through technologies that enable faster connectivity, more precise visibility, and optimized device energy consumption. This will help accelerate our efforts and mission to make supply chains more connected, automated, intelligent, and sustainable. We’re driving innovation and collaboration in supply chains to ensure that foods and medications reach their destinations safely, and help reduce food and pharma waste to make a net zero future possible.”

In the immediate future, the deal will prioritize Sensitech’s suite of real-time monitoring services with help from the Qualcomm Aware Platform that can help provide advanced location precision and reliability, including TempTale GEO X, an internet of things (IoT) temperature-monitoring solution that keeps track of pharma cold chain shipments. Carrier’s Lynx ecosystem, can also assist Sensitech in growing its asset tracking capabilities.

“We are thrilled to announce this collaboration with Sensitech to bring cutting-edge connectivity and location technologies to the cold chain industry,” noted Nakul Duggal, group general manager, automotive, industrial & embedded IoT, and cloud computing, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “By leveraging the Qualcomm Aware Platform, we aim to enhance Sensitech’s real-time monitoring capabilities, ensuring greater precision, and reliability in global cold chain shipments.”

When it comes to the pharma industry, the cold chain aims to delivering safe, temperature-controlled transport and storage of medication. The challenge often lies in end-to-end visibility and security, as along the chain there can be different providers at each stage of the process.

Last year, Sensitech had purchased the Monitoring Solutions business of Berlinger & Co. AG—a company that specializes in innovative and customized solutions for monitoring temperature-sensitive goods in the pharma and life science, global health, and clinical sectors—in a deal that officially closed this past August.2,3

According to the involved parties, the merger works well as the companies complement each other: Berlinger provides software and hardware solutions that will have the capability of widening Sensitech’s cold chain monitoring product portfolio. One piece of that portfolio is its branded SmartSystem platform that provides modular, real-time, end-to-end monitoring with the help of cloud-based software platform and temperature-monitoring devices; software and analytics that can automate the end-to-end stability and validation process for clinical trials; software and analytics to automate the end-to-end stability and validation process for clinical trials; and fridge-tags for vaccine fridges and refrigerated site-monitoring.
